Over time the old seal can wear a groove in the shaft and if the new seal is put in and lined up on the same spot on the shaft, there is a good possibility that the new seal will leak.

Now there is 2 ways to fix this issue,

1. When installing the new seal don't drive the seal in all the way, so the seal runs on a different part of the shaft.

2. Since the new seals are generally thinner than the original you can use 2 seals instead of one, thus creating a greater seal against leaking oil.
